Alois Alzheimer Center Receives Perfect Marks

The Alois Alzheimer Center® of Cincinnati, part of the Healthcare ManagementGroup, recently received perfect survey results from the Ohio Department of Health. This marks an unprecedented trend among Ohio long term care and residential care facilities.

This is Alois’ seventh consecutive year deficiency-free surveys. The Ohio Department of Health routinely conducts unannounced compliance surveys. These surveys occur between nine and fifteen months since a facilities last annual survey. If deemed necessary, other surveys may occur by the Ohio Department’s discretion.

In 2012 the Ohio Department of Health conducted 728 annual surveys. Of these only 15% of facilities across Ohio were deemed to be in full compliance with all standards of care and services. In 2011 the number of perfect annual surveys conducted by the Ohio Department of Health was 877. The percentage of facilities receiving no deficiencies was only 12%. Of these receiving perfect surveys only Alois has received perfect surveys over the last seven consecutive years.

The State of Ohio used this survey process to determine if Alois satisfactorily meets all criteria required for operating a skilled nursing facility. Issues covered evaluating staffing levels, in-depth evaluation of patient care, appropriateness and competencies of medical services, extent and depth of employee training, and adherence to resident rights. Also evaluated during the survey includes the quality of food service operations, thoroughness of housekeeping and laundry services. Finally, time was spent inspecting overall compliance with various aspects of resident and facility safety policies and practices.

About the Alois Alzheimer Center®:

The Alois Alzheimer Center® opened in 1987 as America’s first residential community solely dedicated to the understanding, care and service of Alzheimer’s disease. Since then, Alois has built a reputation on innovative programs, award-winning services and perfect survey results. Families consistently show their appreciation by scoring the facility in the 98th percentile on overall satisfaction and willingness to recommend Alois to others. As their name indicates, Alzheimer care and service is at the core of all they do.

Dedication of Alois Courtyard Garden

Family, friends, and staff of the Alois Center joined together for a dedication ceremony on Friday, November 2, for the dedication of the Alois Courtyard Garden in memory of  a former resident.

The family dedicated many volunteer hours into "sprucing up" the garden area; painting the outdoor furniture, and adding a fountain area and small mosaic stepping stones in the center of the Garden area.

Alois staff followed their progress throughout the summer months and through the final completion: A mural designed by the family and created by Suzanne Fisher Mosaics. The mural has been placed on the wall in the Courtyard Garden for all to see as they visit the area.

The mosaic design has special meaning to the family as well as the staff of the Alois Center.  The mosaic was designed with the residents favorite colors as well as the gazebo where the family spent time when visiting their loved one.  The leaves of the tree have words of gratitude and love from the family for the staff.

The Alois staff sends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the family for all their love and dedication.
