Congratulations to Kathy Hines on receiving Employee of the Quarter! Kathy states she is "humbled and honored to receive this recognition." As a valued employee of over 18 years at the Alois Alzheimer Center, Kathy worked in various roles before discovering that the STNA position was where she belonged. Her daily interactions with residents, family members and co-workers are a very rewarding part of her job. Kathy said she is "proud to be associated with the best Alzheimer Center in Cincinnati." For Kathy care of the residents is her number one priority, and to work with genuine people that care, as she does, is a gift. She looks forward to volunteering during her off time to help with resident outings. She believes strongly that, "normal time away from the Center needs to be part of the resident's daily life," and helps to make that happen.

For the care, time and devotion she gives to the Alois Alzheimer Center, we are proud to honor her with, The Employee of the Quarter! Congratulations Kathy!

National Tea Day Celebrated at Alois Alzheimer Center 2012

In preparation for our celebration, residents and Activities Staff made beautiful teapot decorations and party hats!

The tables were set with an assortment of china teapots, delicate pastries and glowing candles to set the mood for a relaxing afternoon tea.

Residents, family members and staff enjoyed a variety of fine teas while sharing stories of tea parties of the past. We giggled at the tales of Alice in Wonderland and her world famous tea party......and guests like the "Mad Hatter, Eccentric Queen and disappearing Cheshire Cat!"

These family members received tips from the Activities Staff on hat making and arrived in their paper creations. They were happy to escort their Mom to the party.

Therapy Dog Visits the Alois Alzheimer Center

Betty was reading the paper and an article about a grief therapy dog caught her eye. She was very curious about this Canines occupation and wanted to meet him. Betty's daughter, Janet arranged for Otis to make a personal appearance at the Alois Alzheimer Center to visit Betty and other residents.

"King Otis the First" was born on December 6, 2007. Otis was hand chosen by Gwen Mooney from a local breeder to be the Grief Therapy Dog for the Gwen Mooney Funeral Home located inside Spring Grove Cemetery. Otis is a Yellow Labrador Retriever with a certified Pedigree with the American Kennel Club. He helps some families find comfort in their time of need, and will sit for arrangements, visitations and funerals. Otis lives with Gwen and her family, and comes to work with Gwen each day. "He is an employee of our funeral home working for hugs, kisses and the occasional treat," says Gwen.

The Alois Alzheimer Center provided the panel for the CET Television Show, "Focus" to be aired on Thursday, September 1st at 7:30PM and on Sunday, September 4th at 12:30PM.

Tune in for a better understanding of how Alzheimer's disease and dementia impact families and individuals. This distinguished panel, Executive Director Susan Gilster Ph.D, Marvin Knobloch, Director of Outreach and Activities and Brook Wilson BSW, Director of Admissions, will also be covering many aspects of the care and needs of the individuals and families living with this disease and how the Alois Alzheimer Center continues to set the standard in focused programs, education of staff and community and caregiver support.

The Panel stressed the importance of educated staff and program that focus on fun, friendship, joy and a sense of belonging and self-esteem. Life for individuals with memory loss can be full and enjoyable, despite the disease.

As Susan Gilster states, "Every person with dementia is the love of someones life, and that we must never forget."

Residents enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon at Summer Fest 2011! Games, prizes and Fortune Telling by our own "Madam Mari" were just a few of the highlights.

We would like to send our sincerest thanks to the volunteers from Day Spring Church. Their enthusiasm, kindness and encouragement were appreciated by the staff and residents.

We thank them for ensuring that all of the residents enjoyed each game and made the day a fun experience!

Summer Pond Project

The Alois Alzheimer Center has an island garden in the Courtyard/Woods garden area with a small pond that the residents have been nurturing this summer. Staff assisted with the clean-up and supervised the purchase of new Goldfish, Tadpoles and Aquatic Plants. Residents and family members have enjoyed watching the changes unfold and walk by often to observe the fish.

Staff enjoy this area as well and have helped to make it a peaceful, beautiful spot for all to enjoy.

We congratulate Bobbie Butts, the Employee of the Quarter!

Bobbie was overwhelmed to receive this recognition. To be recognized by her co-workers and management for her abilities and job dedication is an honor.

When asked how she feels about her employment at the Alois Center, she replied, "It is a blessing to work at the Alois Alzheimer Center. In my eleven years I have experienced joy and laughter with the residents." Bobbie feels very fortunate that our family members know their loved ones are taken care of each day and it is her pleasure to care for them.

She is an asset to our staff and we all Congratulate her! Well done Bobbie!

Residents enjoy a BB Riverboat ride!

Residents boarded the BB Riverboat, the Bell of Cincinnati

for a fabulous day on the Ohio River.

Residents enjoyed lunch while cruising down the river. An overcast sky did not hamper the sight-seeing and beautiful views!

The Captain shared some history of the BB Riverboats and one lucky resident even sat in the Captain's chair to get a feel for the massive Riverboat!

Alois Alzheimer Center sponsored the Krohn Conservatory Butterfly show on Saturday, June 18, 2011. Staff members, staff families and resident family members greeted visitors, manned door stations and supervised the chosen craft of the day.

It was a pleasure to help support this highly anticipated family event at the Krohn Conservatory that has been sharing the beauty of nature for over 75 years with citizens and visitors to the Cincinnati area.

With Memorial Day just behind us and our Service men and women on their minds, Vista Hospice and a Veterans Organization provided our residents and staff with a special program recognizing each individual Veteran and their service to our Nation.

Nineteen Veterans, representing EVERY branch of service including the Cadet Nurse Corp and the Army Air Corp were present for this special service.

Many sang with the patriotic music, waved their flags and kept their hand over their heart for the National Anthem. Each person clapped long and loudly as each Service Member was presented with a special pin and certificate. Our Service Members were proud, yet humble and some were moved to tears. It was a celebratory, moving, emotional tribute to those as a Nation we owe so very much too. We salute each and every member of our Nation's Armed Forces, past and present. Thank you!

Garden grown tomato salads will be on the menu soon but, not soon enough for some resident's! Residents are anticipating a large crop of tomatoes as they plant the first vegetables and flowers of the season. Some residents are looking forward to checking the plants regularly and eagerly watching for the buds to bloom.

Alois Alzheimer Center Outing to Krohn Conservatory

Krohn Conservatory was built in 1933 but has had greenhouses in Eden Park since the 1880's. The Conservatory celebrated it's 75th year in 2008.

Krohn Conservatory, located in Eden Park, showcases more than 3,500 plant species from around the world and during this time of year the atmosphere is even more beautiful by the addition of thousands of butterflies released in a themed garden area.

Mary Finn, Personnel Assistant at Alois Alzheimer Center, Cincinnati was selected by the Ohio Heath Care Association (OHCA) as its Hero of Long-Term Care for the month of May, 2011. The organization chooses one long-term care employee each month to honor for their service to long-term caregivers, residents and the community.

Susan Gilster, LNHA, Administrator at Alois Alzheimer Center, says that Finn is Passionate about serving the facility's residents and the facility.

"Mary Finn is a 'hero' each day here at the Alois Center." said Sharon Fender, Director of Human Resources. "Her ability, professionalism, compassion and kindness are witnessed daily by all those who enter the Center and meet our Mary!"

Mary will be honored at the Ohio Health Care Association's 2012 Annual Convention in Columbus, and was featured on the OHCA website during the month of May.

It is hard to believe that 19 years have passed since Ova and Norma walked through the doors at the Alois Alzheimer Center, eager to volunteer and offer their services. It has been our pleasure to get to know them and watch them share their time and talents with residents, staff and family members. Ova and Norma offer church services to the residents each and every Sunday.

On April 10, 2011 Marvin Knobloch, Director of Activities and Outreach, along with several Alois employees and a full congregation, gathered at The Friendship Baptist Church to present a plaque and Certificate honoring their dedication, commitment and service to the residents at the Alois Alzheimer Center.

Ova and Norma are the epitome of what Volunteers and Volunteering are all about and it is our great pleasure to recognize them and honor how much they mean to all of us.

The Gwen Mooney Funeral Home invited residents to lunch and a tram tour of the grounds at Spring Grove to enjoy the flowers and share a little history. They were also treated to a delicious grilled lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs and all the trimmings including beautiful, heirloom tomatoes.

Residents also enjoyed an exclusive tram tour of the grounds with a guide who shared information and cemetery history, which dates back to 1845.

We are grateful to Gwen Mooney and her staff for providing a very special afternoon.

Scholarship Awarded to Alois Alzheimer Center Employee!

It is our pleasure to announce that Tracy Beasley has been awarded the $2500.00 Steve and Carol Boymel Family Scholarship, presented annually by the Educational Foundation of the Ohio Health Care Association.

Tracy works full-time at the Alois Alzheimer Center as an LPN, attends RN classes at Fortis College in Sharonville and manages a family. Her children, Cameron, 13; Christian, 9; and Cori, 2, and school keep her very busy!

Tracy was presented with the scholarship at a celebration luncheon at the Greater Columbus Convention Center on May 3, 2011.

Staff of the Alois Alzheimer Center - Susan Gilster, Marvin Knobloch and Amber Adams - presented three sessions at the 26th International Conference of Alzheimer Disease International, "The Changing Face of Dementia", in Toronto, Canada. The Conference included over 1,000 individuals from around the world. Sessions included "Exceptional Training, Support and Retention in a Dedicated Alzheimer's Facility," "Outings for Individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Provide Meaningful Experiences and Quality of Life," and "Providing Effective Weight Monitoring Programs for Individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia."

Alzheimer's disease is gaining international recognition as a major source of concern in the coming years in all countries around the world. Currently there are over 35 million people with dementia and that number is expected to grow to over 100 million in 2050.

Alzheimer's Foundation of America Quilt Tour 2011

The Alois Alzheimer Center Quilt Panel

In 2007 the Alois Alzheimer Center was invited to be a part of the Alzheimer Foundation of America exhibit and to submit a quilt panel. We approached the very talented, Moya Jones, a family member, who eagerly accepted! Moya designed and created a quilt panel that would represent our Center as a part of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America Quilt to Remember. Moya took great care to make a panel that reflected "who we are," and how better to do that than have photos of our residents stitched on each corner of our quilt panel.

In 2006 the Quilt was unveiled in NY City, Central Park. Since then the Tour has visited many states across the nation bringing awareness to Alzheimer's disease. With the panels laid out side by side the Quilt is now 12,640 square feet! That is more than the length of four Olympic-size swimming pools!

Flying Pig 5K

The Flying Pig 5K is a diverse event of the Flying Pig weekend. The 5K brings together athletes of all abilities in one event combining a run/walk, the Hope & Possibility division and the Pump 'N Run under the umbrella of the 5K.

The Alois Alzheimer Center Welcomes Australian Visitor

Kim Stewart, Research Project Manager from Baptist Community Services in Australia, just completed a week of observation and discussion with the employees of the Alois Alzheimer Center. Kim became acquainted with Susan Gilster, PhD and Executive Director of the Alois Center, when Dr. Gilster was on a 3 week speaking and consulting tour in Australia last year. Kim, along with other company representatives, believed that they would benefit from additional information and an observational opportunity at Alois.

Baptist Community is a large progressive Christian organization established in 1944, providing a continuum of elder care services. It currently operates 22 facilities including some with dementia units and a variety of support programs in the community. As a traditional long-term care provider however, representative Kim was interested in seeking guidance on new and contemporary models that create a more service-oriented environment and staff support programs including training, enhancing relationships and the decision making processes. Kim intends to gain information on these programs as they exist at Alois and replicate them in her own community.

During her week-long visit, Kim observed all aspects of the Center, including a first-hand look at how each department supports the others. Reportedly she gained a better understanding of the importance of an organizational approach to success, serving and including all touched by the facility; residents, families, staff, students and community.

Once Kim returns to Australia she will be sharing her observations and experience. She has expressed a desire to see many of the processes and programs at the Alois Alzheimer Center implemented within the 22 facilities she represents. In addition, both organizations promise to work collaboratively to share information and best practices through joint publications in international journals.

It was a pleasure to have Kim at the Alois Center and we hope that she will come again. We wish her and the Baptist Community Services great success.

Martha Buckley has received the Employee of the Quarter

at the Alois Alzheimer Center!

Martha began her relationship with the Alois Alzheimer Center volunteering in the Activities Department while attending high school. Upon graduation, she went to UC and later pursued a career in retail management with the Nautica Company. She was successful and happy for six years but, felt like she wanted to do more and wanted to make a difference. Martha reconnected with The Alois Alzheimer Center, where she is certainly making a difference in the Activities Department.

Martha enjoys her job, "loves her co-workers," and feels like she is making a difference in the lives of the eldery. Martha had tears in her eyes as she described what the residents mean to her. She has found, a job that is more than "a job" - where she truly makes a difference.

Martha lives in Fairfield with her husband Chris and two sons, Ethan, 5 years old and Ryan, 2 years old.

Peraza Music Workshop Performs at the Alois Alzheimer Center!

The Peraza Music Worksop has included the Alois Center in their outreach program for the past 4 years. This is an annual event that residents and staff look forward to with much anticipation!

Students from the Peraza Music Workshop entertained residents, family members and staff with a beautiful violin concert. Along with the classics, students picked up the pace with upbeat "fiddle" selections.

How fortunate we are to be recognized and pampered. HSWO acknowledges the great work of the caregivers, at Alois who work each and every day to enhance the lives of those with memory loss.

As we close out another wonderful year at the Alois Alzheimer Center, we would like to take a moment and thank all of the volunteers that have graciously shared their talent and time with the Center. Volunteers have engaged the residents in a variety of activities, including church services, game night, concerts and flower arranging, just to name a few.

Bengal's Day at the Alois Alzheimer Center!

Residents, families and staff all enjoyed the Annual Bengal's Day with a special appearance from "Who Dey!" The Cincinnati Bengal's have many fans at the Alois Alzheimer Center and team spirit was evident by all the jerseys, hats and othr team items worn by staff and residents. Who Dey was welcomed to a sea of orange and black- and he barely noticed a stray Browns, Packers or Colts jersey!

Recently residents wrote about teddy bears, recalling stories of a favorite stuffed animal that they or their children adored. Sharing tales of where those bears are now, or how the bears were lost, was both poignant and comical!

Congratulations to Will Jenkins, Dietary Aide!

For over a year it has been a priviledge to be around Will. His positive outlook and attitude shows daily. He always greets residents, families, staff and co-workers with a smile. He has kind and gentle words for all that cross his path and makes it a point to be courteous and helpful.

Will state's, "God put a smile on my face everyday and I am happy to share that." He speaks very highly of his parents and credits them for teaching him to be the young man he is today. Will is a big football fan, the Cincinnati Bengal's, of course! In his spare time he tinkers with computers, spends time with family and plays a few video games.

Will is happy to come to work everyday and say's "I admire my co-workers for their teamwork and ability to go the extra mile when getting the job at hand done." He looks forward to his time here, not only to be with staff, but to see the residents, who "are the number one reason I love my job."

Milford Baseball Game

A summer day well spent!

Residents recently attended a baseball game and picnic dinner at the Milford Meadows Field. The residents were the guest of the Cincinnati Eagles who played the Cincinnati Stingers, both 12u teams. The boys were a little nervous to have such a large audience but enjoyed entertaining their guests.

The Eagles won the game and both teams serenaded the residents with an energetic, cheerful rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." A perfect ending to a beautiful night out.

The residents had their sea legs and smiles ready for a fun-filled day aboard the Belle of Cincinnati! They enjoyed lunch, music and a cruise. The leisurely ride down the river allowed them to see many sights along the Kentucky and Ohio riverbanks. The sun was warm, the trip was relaxing and the weather was perfect!

25 Years of Service!

In 1984 when Angie Girdler applied at the Alois Center, she had no idea that the housekeeping job she started would, in two years time turn into a rewarding STNA career of 25 years.

At first her job was all about location, the facility is close to home, but it changed as she came to know the residents and staff. While working in housekeeping she developed relationships with residents and felt a genuine desire to be a caregiver. She attended the required classes to obtain her CNA/STNA. Angie knew she found her place, where she is supposed to be and has never dreamed of changing fields or her chosen career. Her job has never been about the money, it's about the residents and the positive outlook she can bring to their lives. Angie has worked all shifts at Alois and has been on third shift for the past seven years. She enjoys the quite and peaceful time with the residents. She goes beyond just giving the needed care; she has formed genuine friendships with residents and has become a trusted confidant for them to lean on, trust and love.

In 2007, Angie was diagnosed with Cancer. She recalls the cards and many phone calls she received from all staff. These memories still warm her heart. The illness gave her an appreciation for life, her family, friends and all the things we tend to take for granted. It was a tough battle and she is Cancer Free!

Angie feels appreciated, listened to and said; "Management cares what I have to say, they take my concerns seriously." She expressed that her voice has made a difference in the lives of the residents and here at the facility as a whole. Over the years she has seen positive changes made for the residents and staff because she was allowed to express herself and make a difference. And for Angie that's what it is all about, making a difference! When asked: "Where do you see yourself in ten years," she replied; "Right here, doing the same job. Personal satisfaction will always keep me here."

Baseball Memories

Take me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowds, buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks, I don't care if I ever come back........

Memories of baseball games, the Reds Stadium, summer, hotdogs and family fun filled the pages of the last writing class for the season. As this circle of friends shared their stories, laughter and joy could be heard throughout the facility well after the class ended.

The group enjoyed traditional baseball treats, hotdogs and Cracker Jacks of course!

The Alois Center is grateful to Annette Januzzi Wick and Leigh Edison for again sharing their talents, creativity and compassion with the residents and providing and engaging, open atmosphere.

Creations Within: Art of the Alois Alzheimer Center

Since 1987, residents of the Alois Alzheimer Center have participated in art-related classes and activities, from drawing and painting, to sculpture and other art mediums. The program not only promotes enjoyment and creative freedom for the residents, but also serves to promote public knowledge of the many gifts and talents individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia have to share.

"Creations Within" is an exhibit of artwork created by individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Each piece of art reflects the artist themselves: expressions of thoughts, feelings, and talents from within that exists in all of us.

Artwork created by the residents of the Alois Alzheimer Center is shared with the community to further the goal of awareness. Art exhibits, such as "Creations Within", have been displayed at the Attic Gallery in Newport, the Westin Hotel in downtown Cincinnati, and the renowned Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati.

The Alois Alzheimer Center will host a program for pastors and clergy on June 24th, 2010. This program, entitled, "Ministering to Those Affected by Alzheimer's Disease," is designed to provide pastors and church leaders with information necessary to effectively minister to those living with Alzheimer's disease and dementis. Those attending will gain knowledge about the disease process, how to communicate with a person living with the disease and learn practical ways of meeting the spiritual needs of individuals and families.

Speakers are provided by the Alois Alzheimer Center and will include: Brook Wilson, Director of Admissions & Social Services, Pastor Marvin Knobloch, Director of Outreach Services, and Dr. Susan Gilster, Executive Director.

2010 Pioneer Award

Recently Dr. Susan Gilster, Executive Director, was honored by the Ohio Health Care Association (OHCA) with the 2010 Pioneer Award. The Pioneer Award recognizes an Ohioian who has been influential in the delvelopment and advancement of long-term care programs, education, professionalism or ideals. Presented at the President's Dinner May 5th, 2010, during the OHCA Annual Convention, Susan was Honored for her commitment to excellence in long-term care services. Recipients are selected by a panel of OHCA Past Presidents.

From the 2010 Convention Publication:

Dr. Susan Gilster Ph.D., is a leader known for creating innovative health care projects here and abroad. Susan was responsible for the development of the Alois Alzheimer Center, which opened in 1987 as the first free-standing dementia facility in the United States. Dr. Gilster serves as a practitioner, educator, researcher and consultant, and has published over 75 articles. She has conducted well over 100 national and international presentations in 12 countries, focusing on Alzheimer's disease care and programs, leadership, organizational development, and employee satisfaction and retention.

Guided by her service-driven philosophy, Dr. Gilster developed a successful, transformational leadership model promoting person-centered care for residents, families and staff. Dr. Gilster published her innovative models in two books: "Changing Culture, Changing Care: Service First," and "A Way of Life: Developing and Exemplary Alzheimer's Disease and Deementia Program." Her most recent publications include the cover story for Long-Term Living Magazine, a series of articles for the professional journal Care Management, and co-author of an ongoing biweekly column entitled, "Ask the Experts" for Long-Term Living website.

Dr. Gilster is a volunteer professor for the University of Cincinnati and a preceptor to students from regional and national universities, spearheading an education program that benefits approximately 200 students annually.

Under her leadership the Alois Alzheimer Center and Staff have earned numerous deficency free surveys and several state and national awards, including many OHCA Personal Excellence awards and the AHCA/NCAL Steps I and II Quality Awards.

Robert J. Cluxton, PharmD, is the Pharmacy/Research Consultant at the Alois Alzheimer Center. Concinnati. For 20 years Robert has made weekly rounds with the medical director and other physicians. He is an unpaid consultant, but is deeply devoted to the residents and the care they receive. He does so only because of his commitment and exceptional dedication to caring for others.

As a professor and consultant in long-term care, Robert provides staff with information on various medications and their side effects, conducting drug research studies that allow residents to reap the benefits much earlier than if they had to wait for FDA approval, and sharing his knowledge with physicians and others to ensure residents receive appropriate medication regimes. He has great respect and compassion for residents and families, and serves as a role model for the students he teaches, wanting them to understand not just the medications and the science behind them, but to see first-hand how they may affect older adults, and the alternatives that may work better.

Following an early stint at the facility for a grant, he asked. "Do you mind if I keep bringing my students here after the grant has ended? I think that the clinical experience prepares them much better for whan they move on to practice on their own." Twenty years later he is still doing just that, bringing students to the facility, and engaging them in multidisciplinary discussions about residents, medications, protocols and treatments.

"Robert has made contributions to the standard of care for residents within our facility," the application states, "and for countless others who benefit from their student experience. We have no doubt former students have moved onto careers with a better understanding that puts respect, caring and resident dignity first."

Marlene Stinson, has served Alois Alzheimer Center in Cincinnati as a Dietary Aide and Cook for the past 11 1/2 years. Though she works in the dietary department, Marlene is always eager to help the nursing department with meals when they are needed elsewhere. She is service-oriented, recognizing that she is there to enhance the lives of the residents, and willing to help them in anyway she can.

"Marlene takes great pride in her work, and will take the extra minute or two to ensure that all food is served at the right temperature, promptly and in an attractive manner," says Amber Adams, Director of Dietary." If she believes a resident is having difficulty, she will first comfort the resident and notify the proper staff member to provide additional assistance, and always follows up with the resident."

According to Adams, Marlene sets the standard for what a dedicated employee should be. She pays attention to all the residents she comes in contact with, always with a smile on her face. She is often observed stopping to help those who seem distressed or in need of assistance. If she is concerned or senses a change in a resident, she will immediately seek out the proper person to notify. Her positive attitude has made her the employee that is selected when new employees need training and guidance.

"Her demeanor is always the same, she steps up to the task at hand and gets it done," says Adams. "It is evident that she is dedicated to the residents, their families and her co-workers.......she is a special person indeed!"

Writing Circle at the Alois Center 2010

Last fall, writer Annette Januzzi Wick met with Marvin Knobloch and Jennifer Dalessandro with the idea to host a writing circle for the residents of the Alois Center. Annette came up with this idea after listening to a podcast on NPR about an author and phychologist from New York who had teamed up to produce a writing circle with individuals with Alzheimer's. In addition, Annette was experiencing the challenges her own mother was facing with dementia. In January, that idea became a reality.

Annette was assisted by Leigh Edison, both of Loveland Ohio. They created a safe space for the participants to share their thoughts and words. After the first class, one participant shared, "I feel like a writer already".

Prior to the class, participants were asked what type of writing subject they would like for the last class. One resident mentioned birthday parties, so the following week, the circle wrote to the theme of birthday parties, after reading poems about gooey cake and musical chairs. They celebrated afterwards whip a whipped frosting double layer cake and singing "Happy Birthday to Everyone". Leigh and Annette noted to the group that their writings about birthdays had a universal theme of being together with family. As one participant put it, "I love my family and it's expressed in my words".

Cindy has worked at the Alois Alzheimer Center for only 3 years-one of our "newer" employees! Cindy loves the residents, families, staff and administrators. She knows everyone is always ready to help and no request goes unanswered. She feels the love at every level that flows through this facility. Her husband has commented on how happy she seems, and she agrees-she is! The ongoing support and laughter is what keeps her here and happy.

When asked why she loves her job, Cindy shared, "My job is rewarding, fulfilling and I look forward to coming to work each day to see the residents and staff".

Biggs Sixth Sense Program

The Alois Alzheimer Foundation will be a featured charity at the Eastgate Biggs, location from Feb. 27th till May 31st.

Buy a Biggs shopping bag or bring your own and you will receive a wooden token worth six cents to drop in one of three bins at the front of the store. All funds collected will go to that charity after a three month period.

Funds for the Alois Alzheimer Foundation go to educate and support individuals and families dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia through Caregiver Seminars, Education and Research.

Alois Center Rings in the New Year!

It’s another year and how fortunate we were to share it with our residents, families, staff and friends. Marvin and the entire Activities Staff made the atmosphere fun, festive and sparkling. There was a splendid assortment of appetizers to choose from, enjoyed by all. The highlight of the evening was the dancing! The chicken dance and the hokey pokey IS what it’s all about! The laughing, smiling and warmth of that night will stay with us all year.

One of the New Year resolutions made by the Alois Center is to have entries made to the Blog often, so please be sure to check back from time to time.
